As You Watch: S2.01: Jurassic Park vs. Jaws

Here’s another installment of the As You Watch Podcast, a podcast I host with Joe, and Vern. This week, we try something completely different. Instead of the usual format, we instead open up the show into a debate-style layout, where Joe argues that Jaws is the greatest summer blockbuster of all time, while I argue for Jurassic Park. Listen to the episode, leave your own thoughts, and let us know if you think that Vern, the moderator, made the right decision.

  • OK, Jaws is clearly the Winner. The question about recasting is a hypothetical, so it’s a cheat to say it can’t be done. If we were casting today, Ryan Gosling or Reynolds for Brody, Andrew Garfield for Hooper, and Ryan Phillipe as Quint. Yeah, I know that sucks but the question was how you would recast it, not how would you make it better. I think William Hurt would have been a great Ian Malcolm. Ford would be terrific as Grant, and then maybe Meg Ryan as Ellie. OK, that’s imperfect, hey let’s put Ford in as Quint and Tom Hanks as Grant, and then we can add some more romance to the Park. OK, Again that sucks but at least I’m taking a shot.
Jurassic Park is great, but it only exists because Jaws came first.

Haha. Very good points. Next week will be much more interesting. I think picking Jurassic Park was a solid choice, but going up against Jaws is a different story..Thanks for listening!
