As You Watch S2.10: Remember the Titans vs Any Given Sunday

Here’s another installment of the As You Watch Podcast, a podcast I host with Joe, and Vern. This week, we continue with our new format, and open up the show into a debate-style layout, where Vern and I go up against each other discussing which film is the better football film, Remember the Titans or Any Given Sunday.  Listen to the episode, leave your own thoughts, and let us know if you think that I, the moderator, made the right decision.

i have yet to watch a film that is either about or involves football to a degree that i could say the football was done well. it’s always cliché and exaggerated. oliver stone thinks he can tell everyone what everything is like, such as JFK and the NFL. but i don’t think he knows football, and – from a fan perspective – i didn’t enjoy Any Given Sunday. i feel i know football far better than any filmmaker other than steve sabol, so i don’t want stone telling me less than what i already know. i think the best depiction of football, strangely enough, was North Dallas Forty.

  • Thanks for the comment, Rich. That’s actually one thing I bring up in the debate. I think that a movie will never really get the sport “right” but that’s okay. It really needs to have a solid focus on the sport itself, and what it means to people and the power of the game.

Any Given Sunday, Al Pacino, what’s not to love. Titans…. Denzel in peak form….

Has there ever been a film where Pacino and Denzel have starred together? I think the universe would implode were that to ever happen.
