With a rather long drought of animated films this summer, it’s easy to look forward to anything colorful coming to cinemas months ahead. The Boxtrolls looks cool, Guillermo del Toro’s name alone sold me on The Book of Life, but I’m most looking forward to Disney and Marvel’s team-up for Big Hero 6. Having not read the comic series, there seems to be this light-hearted, childish fun that has been present in both trailers, slyly avoiding plot details, or character reveals.
Set in fictional San Fransokyo, young robotics creator Hiro Hamada (Ryan Potter) and his marshmallow robot Baymax come across a criminal plot and put together a team of six inexperienced heroes. They include: Wasabi (Damon Wayans Jr.), Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez), GoGo Tomago (Jamie Chung), and Fred (T.J. Miller). Take a look at the trailer below:
With there being little to the trailer, it still looks like fun due to the comedic relief of Baymax (hairy baby); which, if there is not a Stretch Armstrong-esque toy of him in the coming months, I will forever be pissed. The film looks like enjoyable, children fluff, but I’m willing to bet there’s a lot more to it. Disney has been at the top of their game lately, and with the directors of Winnie the Pooh and Bolt at the helm, this is a recipe for awesome. Not to mention the lesser-known voice casting is a nice touch for us film geeks (read Nick’s piece about voice acting: here).
For those who know of the original Big Hero 6, they aren’t featured here (probably due to Fox’s rights with X-Men, as some of the characters are part of that universe), but if a couple could show up as possible role-models for the group a la Minutemen (Watchmen), I bet the fan service would be well deserved. Although, this is based on the “A Brave New World” comic run, so who knows what can happen.
Big Hero 6 is set to team-up on November 7th. What do you guys think of the trailer? Does this film excite you? Are you interested to see how the Disney/Marvel product ends up? Please leave your thoughts in the comments below.
