The Trailer Park: “Exodus: Gods and Kings” (2014)

When the first trailer for Exodus: Gods and Kings hit a month or so ago, I was very unsure of what to think of the film. A whitewashed story of biblical size, the movie looked to be another “average” film from director Ridley Scott. However, the second trailer for the movie has swayed me a little bit in the other direction, with a growing anticipation slowly working its way into my skull. It only helps that Coldplay’s “Midnight” sets the tone.

Although the cast and the heavy use of CGI is slightly distracting, Exodus: Gods and Kings does look like a solid epic from Scott. While it may not be as visceral or gritty as Scott’s Gladiator, the movie still holds onto a lot of the emotion that made that film memorable. A brother versus brother is always strong conflict and with the biblical backdrop of ancient Egypt and all of those damn dirty plagues only adds to the excitement. Plus, it’s Christian Bale (Moses) against Joel Edgerton (Rhamses). You can’t get much better than that.

Exodus: Gods and Kings rolls into theaters on December 12. The film also stars Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley, Aaron Paul, and Indira Varma.

What do you think of the newer trailer? Is it better than the first? Are you excited to see Moses return to the big screen?

Yeah, you know the more I look at this the more the cast does jut out a bit from what they’re portraying than maybe I’d like them too. But since Scott did such an epic job with Gladiator, I can’t do anything to suppress this feeling that he’s back in these kinds of stomping grounds again.

Fun! Love this story so there’s that. Plus Bale and Edgerton. Something that worries me is that some of the effects look really terrible.
