The Trailer Park: ‘Terminator: Genisys’ (2015)

The first trailer for Terminator: Genisys dropped today, and after the horrendous marketing campaign that was leading up to it, it doesn’t look like it will be a complete disaster – maybe just a mild one. Not being a Game of Thrones watcher, I’ve only seen Alan Taylor’s work with Thor: The Dark World, which is just okay. The trailer doesn’t sell me much other than a twist in the timeline of the original 1984 classic, which is a cool touch, but the rest makes it look like another generic summer blockbuster.

Here’s the official plot synopsis with the official trailer below:

The year is 2029. John Connor, leader of the resistance continues the war against the machines. At the Los Angeles offensive, John’s fears of the unknown future begin to emerge when TECOM spies reveal a new plot by SkyNet that will attack him from both fronts; past and future, and will ultimately change warfare forever.

The biggest issue with the trailer are the awful effects that don’t look to have fully rendered yet. But when Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) busts through that department store, I will say excitement filled me at the slightest. Your guess is as good as mine as to why Jai Courtney is still getting work, but I can’t imagine him being anywhere near as good as Michael Biehn. That being said, Emilia Clarke looks to be the perfect casting for Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor.

Terminator: Genisys will be back on July 1st, 2015. What do you guys think? Do you think this franchise still has a chance? Does this trailer excite you? Please leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Yeah… I’m not sure what to think of this.

Also, we can’t critique the effects too much at this point, those are worked on right up to release, so these probably don’t reflect the final product.

I was rather shocked at how they’ve decided to structure this latest Terminator film. That said, the introduction of elements from the first film and the sight of Arnie did fill me with excitement. That said, I’m almost sure it’ll end up being a total failure.

Jai Courtney gets work because he was great on “Spartacus.” No other reason than that.
