(Sverrir) Top 11 Films of 2014

It’s been a big year, both personally and professionally, most prominent of which is my graduation from the University of Iceland with a bachelor’s degree in Film Studies (yay me!). And that’s also the reason the text accompanying this list will be embarrassingly brief, no verbose descriptions of the films, just a plain and simple list. However, I will say that that I enjoyed last year immensely and completely disagree with some of my compatriots, 2014 was a fantastic year. As such, I’m going to break protocol and list my complete ensamble of honorable mentions, in ascending order:

Force Majure, Bonobo, Difret, Obvious Child, The Theory of Everything, Frank, The Double, Venus In Furs, Big Hero 6, The Imitation Game, The Skeleton Twins, Under the Skin, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, John Wick, Snowpiercer, 22 Jump Street, Edge of Tomorrow, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Boyhood.

11. Whiplash

10. Birdman

9. Nightcrawler

8. The Grand Budapest Hotel

7. The Guest

6. Gone Girl

5. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

4. The Babadook

I’m really glad “Whiplash” and “Budapest” took home some Oscar love. Nice list, Sverrir!

  • Great list, man! Many of my favorites of the year are in here.
