Apparently, all of us here at The Cinematic Katzenjammer only post news articles related to Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Batman. Or it could be the fact that the man we all love is in high demand in Hollywood these days and every studio is wanting him attached to one of their films. We previously talked about JGlev’s possible involvement in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, as the studio behind The Avengers was looking to “steal” the actor from rival DC. Well, we can now report that Joe will NOT be in Guardians of the Galaxy and instead has opted for the Sin City sequel, A Dame to Kill For, Deadline reports.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play Johnny, a character written specifically for the film (he’s not in the graphic novels). Johnny is described as “a cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game” which doesn’t describe a whole lot other than that he sounds pretty damn cool. Just like Sin City, A Dame to Kill For will tell multiple stories and Johnny is set to be the one character that pops up in all of them.
Personally, this sounds like a match made in heaven. Stylized neo-noir is the perfect genre for Levitt and if I hadn’t been excited enough for the long-awaited sequel, having his name attached made this movie even more exciting. Plus, this still leaves him open to do something with DC, which I’m still hoping is what’s actually going to happen.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For also stars Mickey Rourke (yes, he’s back!), Jessica Alba, Jamie King, Rosario Dawson, Jamie Chung, and Dennis Haysbert. Clive Owen and Michael Madsen may return and Josh Brolin and Alex Vega are also rumored to appear. A Dame to Kill For hits theaters this fall. 2013 is shaping up to be one hell of a year.
