In 2014 Marvel will release their ambitious sci-fi adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy. The film will be directed by James Gunn (Slither). There are a lot of casting rumors, but we still have no actors officially attached to the project. According to Latino Review Marvel is looking into the availability of two very famous comedic actors – Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler.
Looking into the “availability” means very little at this point. What it does tell us is that there is definitely going to be a big element of humor involved with the project. Rocket Raccoon (a talking raccoon) and Groot (a giant tree alien) will require mo-cap and voices. If I were a betting man, I would say Sandler for Rocket Raccoon and Carrey for Groot. I know fans of the series say that Rocket Raccoon will surprise everyone and steal the show. So, this could be a good move for Sandler. Again, this is just speculation. They could be looking at both of them for the same role.
The other part of this news is that Marvel is still looking to cast Peter Quill (aka Starlord). The list of names in contention for the role is very long, but you can now add Wes Bentley, Chris Lowell, and Cam Gigandet.
Does the possible involvement of Carrey and Sandler make you more or less excited about Guardians of the Galaxy?
