With it being a little more than two weeks until Halloween, in correlation with the trailer I’ll be talking about momentarily, go watch Rosemary’s Baby. It’s a classic demonic pregnancy horror movie from 1968, but it’s one of the best; mind you it’s also on Netflix Instant. Now, back to the trailer for Devil’s Due. Like Rosemary’s Baby, the trailer shows us that this will be about a mother who is birthing some sort of a demon, but it also will be a found footage movie.
Newly-wed Zach (Zach Gilford) and Samantha (Allison Miller) return from their honeymoon with news that they will be expecting a baby. As you can guess, the baby is… different. However, Samantha also begins to show signs of strangeness in her behavior as the pregnancy progresses. Take a look at the trailer below:
As this will probably hit in the theaters before Carrie this weekend and gain popularity from teenagers who garner enough cash to essentially profit a sequel, I have to say that the trailer has gained my attention. The majority of the time low-budgeted found footage horror films that plan a January release date don’t gather much critically, but this is something different in the creepiness factor. And there is a possible better reason as to why these people are filming constantly.
The film is directed by V/H/S veterans Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett for the 10/31/98 segment which was one of the better short films. It’s unknown whether the film will feature all of what is in the trailer, or pull a Paranormal Activity route and change a bunch of things (maybe the husband will be the pregnant one), but from what I’ve seen it looks like a promising horror film that takes the idea that Rosemary’s Baby had and pushes it a little more forward.
Devil’s Due will be released on January 17th. What do you guys think? Do you think this might be an innovative horror movie? Does it look creepy to you? Please leave your thoughts int he comments below.
